In every environment that we are a part of we can find conflict. We find conflict at home, school and in our neighborhood.

1)    Different families deal with conflict using different strategies.

State TWO healthy strategies that can be used at home to solve conflict.

2)    Identify TWO healthy ways of dealing with conflict at school.

3)    Discuss ONE healthy way of resolving conflict in your neighborhood.

Activity:

Create a poster entitled: Guidelines for resolving conflicts. The poster can either be on general guidelines for resolving conflict or it can show guidelines for handling conflict at home, school or in your neighborhood. Remember to show the steps in conflict resolution (see page 26 in your text).

2.     Identify four causes of conflict.

3.     Conflict resolution involves many steps. Outline these steps using numbers or arrows to show the steps taken.

No human can run away from conflict however, what sets us apart is how we address these conflicts.

SCENARIOS: 

Conflict 1:

Jadon and Brady just got back from the tuck shop with their buster and sat eating their lunch. Ruben came rushing through the classroom and knocked over the buster causing Jadon and Brady to get upset. There is no teacher around to help resolve this conflict. How should this conflict be handled?

Conflict 2:

Mother prepared a lovely dinner for the entire family and called us all to the table. As we sat down mother realized that someone stole 4 of the fried jacks. Immediately mother became furious. How should this conflict be handled to prevent it from intensifying?

Conflict 3:

Stephen woke up at 5 o’clock on Sunday morning and began bumping reggae and dance hall music so loud that the houses close by began to shake. His neighbors were awaken by this music and quite angry too since the neighbors 3 month old baby was also up and crying. How should the neighbors handle this potential conflict?

·       A Sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete idea.

·       There are TWO main parts of a sentence:

(i)              The subject (doer of the action)

(ii)            The predicate (consists of verb and other words)

Ol’ Higue                                                     

You think I like this stupidness -

gallivanting all night without skin,

burning myself out like cane-fire

to frighten the foolish?

And for what? A few drops of baby blood?

You think I wouldn’t rather

 take my blood seasoned in fat

 black-pudding, like everyone else?

And don’t even talk ‘bout the pain of salt

and having to bend these old bones down

to count a thousand grains of rice!

If only babies didn’t smell so nice!

And if only I could stop

hearing the soft, soft call

of that pure blood running in new veins,
