·       Felting

Weaving- the interlocking of wrap and weft threads on a loom.

Types of weaving

1.    Plain/ even weave- it is made by alternately interlocking wrap and weft yarns in an over 1 under 1 pattern throughout the entire width of the fabric.

Examples of fabric made by the plain weaving method: Calico, cheese cloth, gingham, polyester cotton, 100% polyester (tetrex).

2.    Twill weave fabrics have diagonal ridges across the surface of the fabric.

Characteristics of Twill weave Fabrics

1.    Diagonal ridges across the surface of the fabric.

2.    Have obvious right and wrong side.

3.    Fabrics are strong and softer than plain weave fabric.

4.    Fabrics crease less than plain weave fabric and do not soil easily, but are difficult to clean.

5.    Fabrics become shinny when worn frequently.

6.    Fabrics stretch and drape well, due to the open structure created by the construction but lose shape easily.

Examples of twill weave fabric: gaberdine, drill, sheeting, denim

Assignment: Using the YouTube videos in the link below create a plain weave and twill weave using paper and glue then mount a sample in your note book.
